I will be cycling from London to Wickford, a total of 34 miles, to raise funds for the Peter Tatchell Foundation: http://petertatchellfoundation.org
Departing from De Beauvoir Square London N1 4LD at 9. 30am on Friday 20 March 2015
I have chosen De Beauvoir square symbolically after the existentialist philosopher and political activist Simone de Beauvoir (1908 – 1986).
It will be a challenging ride for me but it is important to show support for the human rights & LGBT rights the work done by the Peter Tatchell Foundation. It is my modest contribution in building a better future for all of us.
Peter Tatchell, Director of the Peter Tatchell Foundation, a veteran of over 40 years of campaigning and hailed as a national treasure, said:
“Despite being able to punch above its weight, the Peter Tatchell Foundation is a small organisation with limited resources. We've made huge progress for human rights in this country, there are still injustices to put right and this is what Peter's foundation is striving to do. I applaud Pliny's initiative and would like to invite our supporters to contribute to the success of the ride by sponsoring Pliny.”
"The Peter Tatchell Foundation depends entirely on private donations and does not receive any grants. The Foundation is working on initiatives to challenge homophobia in sport, create dialogue with Muslim communities and expand its Education in Human Rights programme in schools and universities.
"This wider reach has created a shortfall between income and expenditure. To plug the gap, the Foundation needs to raise an additional £15,000 in donations each year," said Mr Tatchell.
